Walnut Council Field Day

The woods are three miles west of Thorntown and then a quarter of a mile north on the Colfax blacktop, or at the intersection of County Road 1075 W. and 700 N., Sugar Creek Township, Boone County, Indiana.

General Information:

· Proper attire – Anything you will need to be comfortable in the woods.

· Bring your own chair.

· Bottled water will be available – if you’d like something in addition to that, bring your own.

· If you need transportation to go to the woods, please let us know when you register.

· Registration fee is $5.00, pay some extra if you’d like to support the Indiana Chapter of the Walnut Council – not required.

9:30am-10:00am Thirty Years of Fighting Invasive Species – What works for me: Raoul Moore, Crawfordsville, Indiana – A Man of the Woods.

10:00am-10:30am What is the correct time to harvest a tree? Claude Diehl, Warsaw, Indiana – President of the Indiana Chapter of the Walnut Council. Private landowner – manager of Diehl Woods.

10:30am-10:50am Correct seedling planting. Jim McKenna, West Lafayette, Indiana – Private operational tree breeder – 170,000 trees later.

11:00am-12:30pm Tree identification: Sharpen up your tree identification skills. – Steve Felt

12:30pm-1:00pm Lunch – A hearty sandwich, apples, mandarin oranges, potato chips, cookies and bottled water.
