Friday November 10th Field tours
Purdue Forestry & Natural Resources department Martell Forest field tour – all day
9:45 AM- 4:15 PM
Join Purdue staff on this 500-acre property to learn about timber management and research activities. Topics will include recent thinning, timber stand improvement, invasive species control, using fire to manage oak, improved selections, and others. Travel on your own to Courtyard by Marriott (150 Fairington Ave., Lafayette Map link) by 9:45 AM EST with the bus departing at 10 AM. Lunch and transportation provided.

Tippecanoe County naturalist Mary Cutler will utilize hands-on methods from the Hoosier Riverwatch Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program to show you how to assess the physical, chemical and biological health of a local creek. Learn how you can attend the full training, become a certified Riverwatch volunteer, and submit data on the health of the streams in your own backyard. Bring waterproof boots or waders and appropriate clothing for optional creek wading. Travel on your own to Wah-ba-shik-a Nature Center (200 Battle Ground Ave., Battle Ground Map link) for this afternoon program. Maximum of 30 participants.

After the tours, enjoy dinner on your own before meeting at the Courtyard by Marriott in Lafayette, Indiana for the optional evening activities. Join us for a dessert reception and program.

We will begin the morning with a keynote speaker and IN Division of Forestry update, followed by several breakouts on topics from forest management to wildlife to other woodland ownership topics. Childcare will be available during the day.The evening will end with an optional awards banquet and live auction.
